Credit Cards, Money Habits, Student Loans, and Taxes: A Reflection
When we began our money unit with studying student loans, I was very interested. Seeing that college was only a few years away, it was surprising when we began look at college tuitions and how long it would take us to pay them off. Studying student loans made me realize that practicing good money habits can help you in not having to pay more interest in the long run. After studying student loans we jumped into taxes. Unfortunately I was gone for most of the tax week, but I was still able to discuss how taxes are spent with my parents and I found out how to calculate taxes through tax brackets. This information will come in very useful when I have my own family, and I am glad had the chance to cover this subject. Finally, we covered credit cards. While covering credit cards, I realized there was still a lot that I didn't know about them, which is why it was so valuable to learn about them in our class. Today, credit cards run the economic world, and so I'm glad we took the time to look at them from every different angle.
Presenting our credit card project at final exhibition was a good experience for me because I had taken the time to get to know the subject, and therefore I felt more prepared to explain it to parents and community members. Having pre-prepared scenarios was also helpful during the exhibition because we were able to show people different APR's, monthly payments, and balances that were already written rather than having to come up with them on the spot. Working and presenting with my peers was also a good experience during final exhibition. I presented with my friend Ellie Gervais and I felt like this didn't just help me as a back-up in case I didn't know some information, but it also made exhibiting our work enjoyable. Overall, I felt my final presentation went very well, and I feel like I learned a lot about different aspects of the economy from it.
As a presenter this year, I feel that I have become more comfortable when showing my work to others. At the beginning of the year, I was terrified to go to exhibitions and show off my work. But as the end of the year is nearing, I feel a lot more confident in my presentation abilities. Because of the growth I've experienced this year at Animas, I take more pride in my work now, and feel more comfortable showing my work to peers and adults.

Algebra 1 Cookie Portfolio
During this project we covered constraints in depth and learned how to maximize or minimize profits, productions, etc. This project was very interesting, and provided lots of real life scenarios that gave us a better understanding of constraints. Although this project took us some time, I feel like it gave me a better understanding of constraints and provided a better learning experience.
Lyle's Dubstep & EDM Linear Regression Project
Procedure, Predictions, Reflection, and Conclusion
Procedure: To collect my data I used a website called Turnable.fm. On this website, you play music for other listeners that like the same music as you do. When you enter a room, it shows you how many listeners are currently in that room. I used the Dubstep & EDM room to collect my data. Every half an hour after 3:30 (pm) I would go to the main menu of rooms and see how many listeners were in the Dubstep & EDM room. I did this every half hour until I had my 12 data points.
Predictions: For my predictions I used two x values since it wouldn't make sense to use any y values. My two x values are 7 and 9. I predicted that after 7 hours there would be about 30 listeners. I predicted that after 9 hours there would be about 29 listeners.
Reflection and Conclusion: Before collecting my data I knew that it would be hard to predict future data points because the data didn't follow any sort of pattern. Of the data I collected, however, I did find that there was a high correlation in my data points.
So to conclude, I found that because there is no real linear pattern in my data, it would be hard to determine the amount of listeners in the Dubstep & EDM room at a said amount of hours after 3:30 (pm). There are many variables affecting my data: different timezones, eating schedules, and any other variables that may affect how many listeners are in the rooms. All of this would make it hard to predict future data points, so I don't think that this project would be good for someone that wanted linear and predictable data.
