SPANISH TWO
Español 2 Travel Skit: El Aeropuerto
For the Spanish 2 Travel Skit Project, each group was assigned a topic to memorize and perform in front of a live audience. My skit group consisted of classmates, Ellie Gervais, Lia Henriksen, and Nick Turco. Our group were assigned the airport vocabulary to perform in our skit. Since our skit was set to take place in an airport, we figured that it would be harder to incorporate cultural accuracy since there is not much culture vibrance within the confines of an airport. As hard as it was to incorporate cultural accuracy, we chose for our characters to travel to Mexico City in order to mimic the experience of what it would be like to travel to this city or another Spanish speaking city. Our process of writing the skit was a little bit sluggish, but eventually our group got it together and we came to a solid plot line that involved humor, accurate language, and a entertaining trip following 2 average tourists. In the end, memorizing and performing the skit was very easy for our group. Although it took many practices and many revisions, we were able to accomplish a well refined skit, and our final performance was well worth the time and work put in to our skit.
My reaction to this project was extremely positive. Being able to work with creative group members who inspired me to further my Spanish speaking abilities in front of an audience was not only fun but also taught me a lot about group work and collaboration. There were times during this project when my group members and I would break down laughing after we thought of a new line or new choreography. This light-hearted nature made this project very fun for me, because I felt that I was able to be creative and learn valuable vocabulary at the same time. In our group, there was nobody trying to take a control and we all contributed equally. This group dynamic allowed us to move from line to line fluidly, and allowed us all to participate in group decisions and discussions. On the actual night of the performance, our skit went off greatly. The audience enjoyed the unique quirks of our skit, like the time when we went in almost a minute of silence while the white noise of an airplane cabin played in the background. All of these aspects made this project enjoyable, and I thought it was a fun and unique way to learn and convey Spanish vocabulary.
